Fundraiser for newly arrived migrants, 10/29-11/5 2023

We are hosting a fundraiser for newly arrived immigrants the weekend of November 4-5. All proceeds will go to Mutual Aid Funds distributed by Bushwick City Farms and BAMSA (Black and Arab Migrant Solidarity Alliance). We have specific events listed below, and throughout the week of 10/29-11/5, anyone bringing new or lightly used items for the goods drive* will receive 25% off their treatment.

Like all events at Open Care Community, masks are required. Workshop presenters will remove their masks to present, and there will be one baby present without a mask. If you have any questions about our covid safety policies, please reach out at info@opencarecommunit.com or 917-426-1138.

*Needed Items: Warm weather clothes for adults and children, sleeping bags and bedding. Please only bring new or lightly used items.

  • Winter Wellness Herb Workshop

    11.4.23 3:30pm -5:30pm

    Please join us for a winter wellness herb workshop! Participants will learn how to make elderberry syrup, fire cider and a chili-pepper pain balm. We will also offer advice and insight from members of Brooklyn Herb Club on how to form your own herbal medicine / makers club. Participants will all receive a 4oz bottle of elderberry syrup, a 16oz jar of fire cider and a 2oz tin of chili-pepper balm.

  • Sound Bath and Meditation

    11.4 6:15-7:15PM

    Please join interdisciplinary artist and healer Rena Anakwe for a sound bath and meditation session. This is a fundraiser to support Bushwick City Farms and BAMSA mutual aid funds for newly arrived immigrants. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat.

    Rena Anakwe is an interdisciplinary artist and performer working primarily with sound, visuals, and scent. Exploring intersections between traditional healing practices, spirituality, and performance, her practice uses creative technology to focus on sensory-based, experiential interactions.

This fundraiser, which supports Bushwick City Farms and BAMSA mutual aid funds for newly arrived immigrants, is a great opportunity to try our cosmetic procedures for a great cause. From 10-2 on Sunday, 10/22, microneedling, acu-facial rejuvenation or facial gua sha and cupping for half off the regular price. Click the “Book Now” button in the top right corner of this page to schedule a cosmetic treatment. Simply select the treatment option you are interested in (ie microneedling vs acu-facial) and book for 10/22.

    DIY Facial Workshop 3:00PM Join us to learn how to keep your skin healthy and glowing. We’ll go over safe and effective ways to use facial cupping and gua sha, talk dermarollers and review dietary, lifestyle and products to help your skin look its finest.
