Massage Therapy at Open Care
Our Massages:
At Open Care, each massage is tailored to the presentation, needs and expectations of each client. Massages include a combination of traditions such as tui-na (Chinese medical massage) and shiatsu (Japanese massage) along with various techniques such as focal trigger point and myofascial release to promote relaxation and therapeutic effects.
Alongside these, circular friction, acupressure, stretching, effleurage (circular stroking using the palm of the hand) and petrissage (deep tissue kneading and compression movements) are used for managing acute or chronic pain.
FAQ:
Will there be a consultation/talking time to determine problem areas? About how long? Each client will receive a brief consultation intake lasting approximately 2-5 minutes to discuss the presentation history of the chief complaint (if any) and go over expectations for the massage.
Do you palpate to determine what areas of the body to focus on first? I do not typically palpate before the massage. I generally begin each massage with a shiatsu sequence of compression along the spine. Palpation is generally integrated with massage techniques and not performed on its own unless it’s indicated by a specific injury.
Do you do a front and back massage on everyone? The practitioner will recommend the most beneficial position for the massage determined by the needs and expectations of the individual client. When organizing a massage treatment I prioritize therapeutic results and resolving a chief complaint over fulfilling expectations of completing a “full body massage” in prone and supine, unless that is explicitly requested during the intake.
